Land Acknowledgement (2025)
We would like to respectfully acknowledge that we occupy the ancestral lands of the Monongahela [muh·naang·guh·hee·luh] people and the Haudenosaunee [hoh·deh·no·shaw·nee] confederacy, which includes but is not limited to various Iroquoian [ee·ruh·kwoy·uhn] language nations such as the Seneca [seh·nuh·kuh], Cayuga [kai·yoo·guh], Onondaga [awn·ahn·dawg·ah], Oneida [oh·nai·duh], and Mohawks [mow·haaks]. We recognize that these Indigenous peoples are the caretakers of the land and water of this region.
These lands were forcibly taken from Indigenous people by Eurocolonial settlers as part of an ongoing history of colonization, displacement, exploitation, and war.
We pay our respects to their Elders and to the Indigenous peoples of our region both past and present. Further, we recognize and respect the future of these communities and cultures and the spaces they occupy.
The process of knowing and acknowledging the land we live on is a way of honoring and expressing gratitude for the Indigenous peoples who came before us.
This acknowledgement will be reviewed annually.
